Under the theme “Connecting Citizens”, the first day of the 14th edition of Infotel took off at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in style today. Organized by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), Infotel 2015 is scheduled to last until the 22 November 2015.
Establishing itself as the Biggest ICT Exposition in Sri Lanka, this year’s edition is expected to give importance to the modern-day systems and devices.
Hence, the attendees had the opportunity to be enlightened on Software Solutions, Hardware & Digital Devices, Telecommunications, ICT Education and Training, System Integration, Cloud Computing, Computer Gaming, Mobile Computing and many more.
Adhering to the number of sectors available, over 200 stalls have been established as the number of attendees are expected to rise up to 100,000 during the weekend.
Apart from all the educational awareness stalls, the SLT Esports Championship (Gaming Zone) was certainly the highlight from the opening hour of the first day of Infotel 2015. As expected the turn up was quite remarkable and with the hype created on Day 1, the weekend is definitely something to look forward.
Involving both individual and team titles, the SLT Esports Championship worked off over 8 games with attractive cash prizes for winners from each category. While the registrations for the team title ended prior to the event, walk-in registrations are still left open for the individual titles.
Out of the 8 games, Counter-Strike, Dota and Fifa 15 certainly had quite a number of participants due to its popularity among the Sri Lankan youth. Registrations for the individual title will go on till 5pm tomorrow (21).
Besides gaming, Sri Lanka Telecom being the main sponsor of this year’s event has a few other stalls in the bag as well. Attendees are allowed to purchase the exhibited latest technologies and products at the event premises.
Earlier today, the excitement began as Infotel 2015 started off proceedings after a colourful opening ceremony in the presence of the Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, Mr Harin Fernando.
The significance of Infotel 2015 lies in the fact that it has a wide range of activities and events for the Sri Lankan public to experience. Together with a Hardware Solutions pavilion, Sri Lanka Police cyber crime division, Military Innovations division and an ICTA SME pavilion, the exhibition hosts a shopping festival as well.
It is believed that the efforts of the organizing committee has certainly come in handy as Infotel 2015 is unquestionably turning out to be the largest ICT exhibition in the history of Sri Lankan ICT Industry.
